The Nike Air Force 1 Low Colin Kaepernick, as the name suggests, pays homage to NFL quarterback and civil rights activist Colin Kaepernick who, besides his excellent sporting career, surged to wider stardom for taking the knee during a pre-game performance of the American national anthem in protest of brutality. Despite this, Nike has remained resolute in its support of the star and has offered him his very own iteration of its most famous silhouette. Aesthetically, the model borrows the gradient-detailed Swoosh, which can be found on the player’s favourite pair of Nike football cleats. The outsole on the right shoe is detailed with the date of which Kaepernick took a knee in protest – 14th August 2016 – and the Nike Air Force 1 Colin Kaepernick Black’s heel is finished with a cartoon sketch of his face.
